Due to heavy rains and severe flooding, the 2009 Maple Leaf Bike Ride could not be held. Kellogg Lake Park was completely underwater as were large portions of the 50, 70, and 100 mile routes.
But wait - we had volunteers, sponsors, raffle prizes, and hundreds of riders anticipating the event. We couldn't just cancel the ride, so we decided to reschedule it for March of 2010 - thus the Spring Fling Century (aka the Maple Leaf Make-Up Ride) was born!
If you were pre-registered for the Maple Leaf, you are automatically pre-registered for the Spring Fling! And you won't miss out on anything - we will be using the same routes and will have drawings for the same great prizes we promised for the 2009 ride. The prizes include a brand new Trek 1.1 Road Bike (courtesy of Bicycle Specialists), Memberships to the Joplin Family Y and the Carthage Y, a Disc Golf Starter Kit, various bottles of wine (courtesy of The Vineyard and Keltoi Winery), and a beautiful handmade quilt.
A delicious post-ride meal will be provided free to all riders courtesy of Caldone's Italian Restaurant.
The Spring Fling is not just for those who signed up for the 2009 Maple Leaf Bike Ride. Registration is open to everyone! Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience the area's most popular ride. Routes of 15, 35, 50, 70 and 100 miles wind through the scenic countryside of Southwest Missouri via quiet backroads (download the route map). Rest stops spaced along the route will provide food and refreshments. All routes start and end at Kellogg Lake Pavillion in Carthage, MO.
As with all Joplin Trails Coalition fund raising events, 100% of the proceeds from this ride will go towards planning, creating, and maintaining a regional trail system that will not only connect several communities in our region, but will also provide a practical means of non-motorized transportation within each community.
The Joplin Trails Coalition is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and as such all donations are tax deductible.
